A Doula Does Not
Perform any clinical tasks
Your doula provides NON-MEDICAL support.
Your doula will be with you during your entire labor beginning as soon as you request her presence. She will support you and your partner physically, mentally and emotionally.
Make decisions for you
If you have questions about a procedure or medication, your doula is knowledgeable about evidence based practices and is happy to provide information to you so that you and your partner can make an informed decision.
Baby's First Feeding Support
Once your precious little one arrives, he or she will want to eat. Your doula will remain with you to support you in baby's first feeding.
Speak to the staff on your behalf
Just as your doula doesn't make decisions on your behalf, she will not speak to the staff on your behalf.
Postpartum Follow-Up Visit
When you are home and settled, your doula will visit to continue to support and nurture you.. and of course, to see that precious baby!
Project any of my own beliefs onto your experience
Your birth. Your way. Your doula will do everything possible to make sure you have the birth you envisioned.
Whether you choose a completely natural home birth, a medicated birth, a planned induction, a c-section or anything in between, your doula is there to support and nurture you.
